As our elderly opt to “age in place” and remain in the
community where they have spent most of their adult life, our law enforcement officials are reaching out to them. Recently, I attended a breakfast sponsored by the District Attorney and Sheriff’s offices of Worcester County in Massachusetts.
The Directors of local area Senior Centers
and other pertinent guests were invited. The law
enforcement officers were looking for additional creative ideas for promoting our seniors welfare.
Currently the county is looking into adopting a daily check in phone call (RUOK) to seniors. Already they have several good programs available:
distribution of the File of Life magnets, 911 cell phones, house numbering (for
emergency vehicle ID), a project lifesaver program (tied to the Lojack tracking
for elders) and an iris recognition/identification program. What ideas has your police department come up with?
